About Attachment

Attachment style describes what a person does with closeness and distance. When something feels off, one person asks for reassurance straight away, another goes quiet and works through it alone, and a third wants to come closer while hiding that they want to. Bowlby watching children separated from their mothers, Ainsworth's strange situation and Bartholomew's later addition of the fearful type gave us the four categories still in use.

These tests treat intimacy and distance as one axis. Some are short and only place you in one of the four types. Others split the axis into avoidance, anxiety, trust and boundaries so you can see which part gets triggered fastest. Answer for what you actually do in a relationship, not for what you think you should do.
