Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST) | Scientifically Monitoring Every Milestone of Early Childhood Growth

I. What Is DDST?

The Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST) is an internationally recognized standardized tool for assessing the development of children aged 0-6. It is not simply an intelligence test but rather, by observing a child's behavior in daily life, detects possible developmental delays or deviations early.

II. The Four Core Areas Monitored

1. Personal-Social Initiative

Observing a child's ability to interact with people and their independence in handling daily tasks (such as dressing and washing hands).

2. Fine Motor-Adaptive

Examining hand-eye coordination, the manipulation of small objects, and the ability to solve simple problems.

3. Language Development

Including perception of sound, auditory comprehension, vocabulary accumulation, and the use of expressive language.

4. Gross Motor Development

Assessing control of the body's large muscle groups, such as sitting, standing, walking, jumping, and balance.

III. Why Is Regular Screening Necessary?

A child's brain is highly plastic. Through DDST screening, we can catch subtle "signals" before obvious "pathology" appears. "Early detection, early intervention" is the core principle for improving the prognosis of children with developmental delays.

IV. Assessment Notes

  • Applicable age:From birth to 6 years old (this version maps behaviors at different stages to a universal score).
  • Assessment environment:Please observe and record during a time when the child is emotionally stable and energetic (such as after a nap).
  • Result interpretation:This screening result is for reference only; if the test shows a "developmental warning", it is recommended to go to a professional pediatric department for a full standard DDST reassessment.
