Core Fear Test | Identify the Deep Sources of Anxiety in Your Subconscious

1. What Is Core Fear?

Core fear is not ordinary fear, but a deep source of anxiety rooted in the subconscious that shapes your decision-making patterns and behavioral choices over the long term. It is often activated when you face uncertainty, pressure, or a major choice.

Psychologist Donald Meichenbaum, in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), points out: an individual's automatic negative thoughts often stem from core beliefs formed early in life. Core fear is precisely the concentrated emotional expression of these negative beliefs.

Common core fears usually center on three directions:

  • Fear of failure: being afraid of incompetence, rejection, or losing value
  • Fear of loneliness: being afraid of being abandoned, not understood, or losing connection
  • Fear of losing control: being afraid of chaos, unpredictability, or losing control

2. How Does Core Fear Affect Your Decisions?

When you are unaware of your core fear, it controls you from the shadows:

  • Out of fear of failure, you do not dare try new opportunities and miss out on growth
  • Out of fear of loneliness, you over-please others and neglect your own needs
  • Out of fear of losing control, you over-plan and find it hard to adapt to change

This test is designed around the CBT 'cognitive triangle' (thoughts-emotions-behaviors) model, identifying your current dominant fear type through your reactions in typical situations.

3. The Five Assessment Dimensions of This Test

The test has 20 questions in total and assesses your core fear tendencies across five dimensions:

  • Failure Avoidance: When facing a challenge, do you prioritize 'not making mistakes'?
  • Belonging Anxiety: In relationships, are you extremely worried about being excluded or not accepted?
  • Need for Control: Your tolerance for uncertainty and your desire for control
  • Source of Self-Worth: Is your sense of self-worth based more on achievement, relationships, or security
  • Stress Response Pattern: Under stress, do you retreat, cling, or fight the chaos

4. Purpose and Target Audience

This test is suitable for the following people:

  • People who often feel inexplicably anxious and indecisive
  • People who want to understand 'why I always make choices like this'
  • People who want to improve their decision quality and reduce internal friction
  • People interested in cognitive behavioral psychology

5. Scoring and Results

Each question is scored 1–5, from 'Strongly disagree' to 'Strongly agree'. The system will calculate your scores on the three core fears and give you your current dominant fear type along with targeted adjustment advice.
