Fashion Sensitivity Test | Are you a trendsetter or a guardian of the classics?
1. What Is Fashion Sensitivity?
Fashion sensitivity does not simply mean 'knowing how to dress,' but rather a sensitivity and response pattern toward aesthetic trends, cultural symbols, and social moods. It reflects a person's degree of 'forwardness' in visual aesthetics, consumption decisions, self-expression, and lifestyle choices.
In consumer behavior research, fashion sensitivity is regarded as a form of 'innovativeness,' which determines whether you tend to try new things first, prefer to follow once they mature, or always stick to the classics.
2. Theoretical Basis: Diffusion of Innovations
This test mainly draws on Everett Rogers's 'Diffusion of Innovations'. This theory divides how quickly people accept new ideas and new products into five categories:
- Innovators:They take risks and try cutting-edge things first.
- Early Adopters:Opinion leaders who recognize the value of a trend.
- Early Majority:Thoughtful; they follow once a trend has been proven.
- Late Majority:Skeptical; they join only under mainstream pressure.
- Laggards:Tradition-oriented, resistant to change.
In addition, we also combined'Self-Monitoring Theory', to examine whether you adjust your outward image according to social situations (high self-monitors tend to have greater fashion sensitivity).
3. The Four Assessment Dimensions of This Test
To comprehensively assess your fashion sensitivity, we designed the following four core dimensions, with 18 questions in total:
- Aesthetic foresight: can you catch aesthetic trends before they break out? How tolerant are you of unconventional designs?
- Exploratory consumption: in the face of unknown brands or niche designs, how strong is your curiosity and willingness to try?
- Social expressiveness: do you treat your appearance as a social language? Do you hope to send specific signals through your outfits?
- Classic reliance: in highly uncertain environments, do you tend to return to safe, classic styles?
4. Purpose and Target Audience of the Test
This test is designed to help you understand your psychological coordinates in fashion and aesthetics, and is suitable for:
- People who are confused about personal image management and do not know how to define their style
- Professionals in design, marketing, new media, and other fields that require keen aesthetic insight
- People who want to understand the psychological motives behind their consumption habits
- People interested in pop culture, sociology, or consumer behavior
5. How the Scoring Works
Each question is scored from 1–5, from 'strongly repelled/conservative' to 'extremely enthusiastic/avant-garde.' Based on your weighted scores across the four dimensions and the Diffusion of Innovations theory, the system will classify you as one of five fashion personality types and provide tailored style advice.
