Executive Function: decoding the brain's high-level command system

1. What is Executive Function?

Executive function is called the brain's 'general headquarters' and is mainly regulated by the prefrontal Cortex of the brain. It is not a single cognitive ability but a coordination of a series of high-level cognitive processes. This scale is adapted from classic neuropsychological paradigms and aims to assess an individual's mental processing efficiency in complex environments.

2. The four core dimensions of the assessment

1. Inhibitory Control

The ability to stay focused in the face of distracting information and to inhibit impulsive responses. This is the core of the brain's 'braking system'.

2. Cognitive Flexibility

The ability to switch quickly between different tasks or rules, that is, how quickly your mind can shift.

3. Working Memory

The ability to temporarily store and process information in the brain, similar to a computer's memory performance.

4. Planning & Strategy

The ability to predict future outcomes and formulate the optimal path, reflecting the foresight of high-level thinking.

3. Academic statement
