Procrastination Level Assessment | Just an occasional lazy moment, or trapped by procrastination?
I. What Is Procrastination?
Procrastination is the act of voluntarily delaying the start or completion of a task even though you know it should be done. It is different from normal rest and relaxation; it is an irrational way of managing time, often accompanied by negative emotions such as anxiety and self-blame.
True procrastination usually has three core features:
- The task has a clear time limit and importance
- The delay leads to negative consequences
- The individual has the willingness and ability to complete the task but chooses to delay
II. Four Types of Procrastination
Depending on the trigger mechanism, procrastination can be divided into the following types:
- Decisional procrastination: postponing action out of fear of making a wrong decision
- Initiation procrastination: difficulty starting a task, always feeling 'not ready yet'
- Execution procrastination: after starting, being easily interrupted and distracted, making slow progress
- Completion procrastination: stalling as you approach completion, afraid of the emptiness or judgment that comes afterward
