The Happiness Formula | An In-Depth Well-Being Assessment Based on the PERMA Model

1. What Is the 'Happiness Formula'?

Many people think happiness is 'luck' or 'the result of accumulated wealth,' but in positive psychology, happiness can be broken down into measurable, cultivable psychological elements. Proposed by American psychologist Martin Seligman, the PERMA model, is regarded as a milestone in modern happiness research.

He believes that true happiness (Well-Being) is not a single emotion, but is composed of five independent yet interconnected core pillars:

  • P - Positive Emotion: the frequency of positive feelings such as joy, gratitude, and calm
  • E - Engagement: the flow experience, an immersion of full attention in the present activity
  • R - Relationships: the quality of deep, supportive connections built with others
  • M - Meaning: belonging to a goal or value system that transcends the self
  • A - Accomplishment: the feeling of striving toward a goal and achieving results

2. Why Do You Feel 'Not Happy Enough'?

Even if life seems to be going well, many people still feel empty or exhausted. This is usually not because they 'have too little,' but because there is an 'imbalance' or a 'weak link' among the five PERMA pillars.

For example: a person may be successful in their career (high accomplishment), but lack deep relationships (weak interpersonal connections), and feel lonely over time; or they may be busy every day (strong engagement), yet unable to find a sense of meaning, eventually falling into 'hollowing out.'

The purpose of this test is not to label you as 'happy' or 'unhappy,' but to help you identify:In your happiness formula, which puzzle piece is missing?

3. The Five Dimensions of This Test

Based on the PERMA model, we designed 20 scenario-based questions, covering the following five dimensions (4 questions each):

  • Positive emotion: Do you often feel pleasure, satisfaction, and hope?
  • Deep engagement: Do you have things that make you lose track of time and devote yourself to fully?
  • Interpersonal connection: Do you feel understood and supported in your relationships?
  • Meaning and belonging: Do you feel that your existence is valuable to others or the world?
  • Achievement drive: Do you feel proud when you overcome difficulties and achieve goals?

4. Who Is This Test For?

This test is suitable for anyone who wants to improve their quality of life, especially:

  • People whose material conditions are good, but who always feel that 'something is missing'
  • People under long-term high pressure who want to regain their passion for life
  • People who feel distant in intimate relationships or social settings
  • People who are searching for a life direction and long for a more meaningful life

5. Scoring and Result Interpretation

Each question uses a 1-5 scale, from 'strongly disagree' to 'strongly agree.' We will calculate your scores across the five dimensions and, based on the 'lowest-scoring dimension' and 'overall balance,' summarize for you your current happiness weak-link type, and provide targeted action advice.
