Workaholism Index Monitor | Spot Your Achievement Drive and Psychological Compensation
1. What is "pathological work addiction"?
Being keen on work and being addicted to it (Workaholism) are fundamentally different. The former stems from a love of one's profession and the desire to create, while the latter is often a "compulsive psychological tendency". Research shows that excessive work dependence is sometimes a compensatory mechanism for inner anxiety, loneliness, or feelings of inferiority - when we cannot handle a complicated private life or intimate relationships, work becomes the easiest refuge for a "sense of certainty".
2. About the monitoring
This test is adapted from the core dimensions of the Bergen Work Addiction Scale (BWAS) and uses 15 everyday detail scenarios to assess your relationship with work. We do not focus on your overtime hours, but on yourpsychological detachment ability.
3. Four assessment dimensions
- Cognitive preoccupation: Whether work thinking occupies your mind even outside working hours.
- Mood modification: Whether you use work to escape negative emotions or real-life pressure.
- Tolerance and withdrawal: Whether you need ever-increasing intensity to feel a sense of achievement, and feel uneasy when you stop.
- Life erosion (Conflict & Impact): Whether work has substantively damaged your health, hobbies, or relationships.
4. Test tips
Look back over the past three months and choose the option that best matches your true feelings. Remember, this is not a judgment of your work ethic, but a deep scan of your physical and mental state.
