Team Role Test | Discover Your Unique Contribution and Collaboration Style in a Team
1. What Is a Team Role?
A team role refers to the behavioral patterns, ways of contributing, and natural style of interaction an individual tends to show within a team. Understanding your team role not only helps you find the most comfortable and efficient position in the team but also improves collaboration efficiency and reduces conflict.
2. Belbin Team Roles Theory
This test is based on the Belbin Team Roles theory proposed by the British management scholar Dr. R. Meredith Belbin. After nine years of empirical research, the theory found that the success of a high-performing team does not depend entirely on members' intelligence or professional ability, but on whether members' roles complement each other and whether they collaborate smoothly.
Belbin theory divides team roles into three categories and nine roles:
- Action-oriented: Implementer (IMP), Shaper (SHP), Completer Finisher (CF)
- People-oriented: Coordinator (CO), Team Worker (TW), Resource Investigator (RI)
- Thought-oriented: Plant (PL), Monitor Evaluator (ME), Specialist (SP)
Each role has its own unique strengths and allowable weaknesses. This test is not a simple copy of the Belbin inventory; it is based on its core theoretical framework and redesigned for modern collaboration scenarios, helping you identify your natural role and your malleable roles.

4. Test Purpose and Applicable Scenarios
This test aims to help you understand your natural tendencies in teamwork. It suits the following scenarios:
- Quickly understanding members' collaboration styles when onboarding or reorganizing a team
- Optimizing division of labor and team composition in startup teams or project groups
- Personal development, clarifying your collaboration strengths and areas to improve
- Leadership improvement, learning to assign tasks based on members' roles
5. Scoring and Result Interpretation
The test has 18 questions, each with 5 options representing five levels from "not like me at all" to "very much like me." Based on your choices, the system calculates your tendency scores across the nine roles and identifies your dominant team role and supporting role. The result includes: the role name, core contribution, allowable weaknesses, and collaboration and growth advice for that role.
