CPQ Children's Personality Test | Decoding the Psychology Behind Your Child's Behavior

I. What Is the CPQ Children's Personality Test?

The Children's Personality Questionnaire (CPQ) was developed by Professor R.B. Cattell of the Institute for Personality and Ability Testing at the University of Illinois. It is a standardized personality assessment tool designed specifically for primary school children aged 8-12.

Note: This version is a streamlined assessment edition developed based on the principles of Cattell's original scalestreamlined assessment edition, designed to quickly observe a child's emotional stability, social tendencies, and learning traits through everyday scenarios.

II. The Four Core Areas Assessed

Through scenario-based questions, this test focuses on the following four dimensions essential to a child's development:

  • Emotional regulation (sociability and stability): Is your child warm and outgoing or calm and reserved? Do emotions stay stable when facing setbacks?
  • Strength of will (perseverance and boldness): Does your child show a sense of responsibility when completing tasks? Do they dare to express themselves in a group?
  • Thinking style (sensitivity and intelligence): Does your child rely more on intuition and feelings, or lean toward logic and rules?
  • Psychological pressure (apprehension and tension): Your child's current level of psychological burden, and how sensitive they are to their external environment.

III. Test Suggestions and Guidance

To get the most authentic results, please note:

  • Non-evaluative: Personality traits are neither good nor bad; being outgoing is not superior to being introverted. Please answer based on your child's real behavior.
  • Faithful scenarios: If your child has difficulty reading on their own, parents may describe the scenes in a gentle, neutral tone without giving hints.
  • Dynamic development: A child's personality is in a period of rapid development; test results only reflect current-stage psychological tendencies.

IV. Purpose of the Test

Through this test, parents and teachers can better 'teach according to each child's aptitude': offering more support to highly anxious children, a stage to shine for highly bold children, and a more nuanced communication environment for highly sensitive children.
