Life Savoring and Engagement Index | Is Your Life Truly 'Lived to the Full'?

I. What Are 'Savoring' and 'Engagement'?

Many people think happiness means a nice meal or a new bag, but psychologists have found:true fulfillmentoften comes from two kinds of deep experience -

  • Savoring: the ability to consciously notice, extend, and amplify positive experiences. For example, watching the same sunset, some people simply 'see it', while others stop to feel the shifting light and recall beautiful moments - that is the difference savoring makes.
  • Engagement: rooted in Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi'sFlow Theory, the state of being fully absorbed in something, losing track of time as your self-awareness temporarily fades.

This test is based on these two classic psychology frameworks. It assesses whether you are 'living in the present' and whether you can draw deep satisfaction from everyday life.

II. Why Care About Whether You Are 'Living Fully'?

Research shows that people with a high capacity for savoring and a high level of engagement generally enjoy greater subjective well-being and lower stress, and find it easier to stick with long-term goals.

On the other hand, if you often feel:

  • 'The days fly by, but I cannot remember anything happy'
  • 'I am always absent-minded and can hardly immerse myself in anything'
  • 'After scrolling my phone I feel emptier and do not know what I am busy with'

it may mean your 'savoring ability' and 'engagement index' are on the low side, and you need to rebuild your connection with the present.

III. The Five Core Dimensions of This Test

To assess your state comprehensively, we designed 20 questions covering the following five dimensions:

  • Sensory Acuity: Do you habitually notice sensory details such as smells, sounds, and textures?
  • Memory Amplification: When something good happens, do you relive it again and again, or does it quickly become routine?
  • Depth of Immersion: When doing something, are you easily interrupted, or can you enter a state of self-forgetting absorption?
  • Sense of Meaning: Can you feel a connection to larger goals in the midst of everyday chores?
  • Present-Moment Awareness: Does your mind often 'wander off', or can it rest in the here and now?

IV. Who Is This Test For?

  • People who feel life is 'dull' or 'numbing' and want to find their passion again
  • People who work and study inefficiently and struggle to concentrate
  • People interested in mindfulness, psychology, and self-growth
  • People who want to increase happiness, not merely 'become successful'

V. Scoring Method and Result Interpretation

Each question is scored 1-5, from 'rarely' to 'always'. The system uses your scores across the five dimensions to determine which 'life state type' you belong to, and offers targeted suggestions for improvement to help you move from 'mechanical survival' to 'living fully'.
