Relationship Balance Assessment | Who Is Giving More?

1. What Is Relationship Balance?

Relationship balance is not about precisely calculating who washes the dishes or who pays the bill; it refers to whether two people in a relationship are roughly equal in terms of the sense of giving, decision-making power, emotional support, and future planning, and other areas. In a long-term unbalanced relationship, the giver tires easily, and the receiver may start taking things for granted, ultimately eroding the ability to love.

A healthy relationship balance usually has the following characteristics:

  • Both feel that their efforts are seen and cherished
  • Major decisions are discussed together, with neither side dominating for long
  • When either feels down, they can be each other's support
  • Their expectations for the relationship's future are basically the same, with no one desperately pulling while the other drags

2. The Four Evaluation Dimensions of This Test

This test is designed around four core angles, with 15 questions in total, to help you see the giving pattern in your relationship clearly:

  • Daily Investment: Who more often takes the initiative to care, arrange dates, and handle life's trivialities?
  • Emotion and Support: When confiding, who listens more? Who is comforted more?
  • Decision-Making and Compromise: When opinions differ, which side usually gives in?
  • Future and Commitment: Who proactively plans the long-term relationship? Whose attitude is vaguer?

3. Who Is It For

  • People who are in a relationship and occasionally feel "it always seems to be me who is busy"
  • People who are satisfied with their relationship but want to objectively assess whether there is hidden imbalance
  • People who have just had an argument and suspect their giving is unequal
  • People who want to move from "feeling" to "awareness" for a healthier relationship

4. Scoring Explanation

Each question is scored 1-5.The higher the score, the more you give, invest, or take the initiative in the scenario of that question. In the end, your "total giving score" and the relative distribution across the four dimensions will be calculated. The result will tell you whether, in the relationship, you arean over-giver, a balancer, or a habitual receiver, and targeted adjustment suggestions will be provided.
